Nara

Nara was Japan’s first capital, before even Kyoto’s one thousand year reign. The Nara area is in many ways the spiritual birthplace of Japan, being an early center of Japanese Buddhism as well as the place where sumo wrestling and the ninja tradition originated. Tokyo Way goes beyond the wonderful deer park and giant Buddha to offer access to Nara’s special food and craft experiences. Further out in the countryside against a backdrop of rice fields is a luxury lodge run by a Shugendo mountain priest.
